Viewing life in gray scales or black and white are metaphors that inspired concorDance contemporary’s motif for their black+white series that premieres several new pieces.

Flocking patterns and mannerisms of birds inspired Veronica Hart’s Avian Concerto. Three dancers gracefully fly to J.S. Bach’s 1st Violin Concerto in A Minor. Veronica conceptualized a high-fashion runway model look. By hand tearing raw silk and combining it with feathers, she made couture costumes with long tails that have an edgy, birdlikefeminine flow. 

Third Flooris a fast-paced, energetic solo about finding the strength to survive and thrive in isolation that choreographer Elisa Alexander performs with acrobatic verve.

Song II reflects the ennui of repeating the same action and expecting different results. The contrast of a vibrant cello solo to the circular repetition of the song accentuates Elisa Alexander’s message.

Salt and Light- a medley of soulful gospel propels the lyrical grace of the dancers in an eclectic mix of West African, Haitian, Brazilian, and Modern dance. The selection of Ben Harper playing with The Blind Boys of Alabama and the deep emotional singing of Mavis Staples reflects Ms. Hart’s spirit and emotion. Salt and Light will uplift and move the audience emotionally and physically.

Professional dancers Elisa Alexander, Kirsten Glaser, Veronica Hart, and Alexandra Keen perform as diversely as the choreography and music. Black+white is 1 hour long and perfect for all audiences. Albemarle Theatre is an intimate 40-seat theater and The Haven will seat only 300. cDc’s engagement is limited to three shows, so order your tickets today.
