If you can talk to the animals, you may want to audition for Play On's upcoming production of Dr. Dolittle. Of course, even if you can't talk to the animals, it's still a great idea.
Play On is pleased to announce open auditions for all roles in the musical version of Dr. Dolittle. Based on the 1967 movie starring Rex Harrison and Anthony Newley, the show includes such favorite songs as Talk to the Animals, When I Look into your Eyes and After Today. Roles include Dr. Dolittle, male 35-60; Matthew Mugg, male 25-40; Emma Fairfax, female 25-35; Tommy Stubbins, boy or girl 12-17; plus an assortment of actors and actresses of all ages, shapes, sizes and ethnicities. Some actors will play animals such as Polynesia, the 200 year old parrot; Gub-Gub, a lovable pig; Jip-Jip, the doctor's faithful dog and the dancing star of the circus, the two-headed Pushmi-pullyu.
Director, Shelley Cole (who directed the sell-outs Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella and The Wizard of Oz in past seasons) is looking for a cast of 22-24 for this fun-filled show. Prepare a song which shows you at your best for the auditions and be prepared to play with animal sounds. An accompanist will be provided. You may also bring a track with background only. Singing without musical accompaniment will not be allowed so please be prepared. If you need assistance locating sheet music or karaoke tracks, contact the director (information below).
Auditions are February 4th & 5th at 7:00 p.m. Attend either session. Performances are May 3-19. Performances and auditions will be held at Play On's Theatre at Ix at 983 Second StreetSE in Charlottesville. Check our web site for more information at PlayOnTheatre.org.
