The  Charlottesville Municipal Band, under the direction of Stephen R. Layman, will open its ninety-first concert season with a Dogwood festival Spring Concert on Sunday, April 21st at 3:00 pmat the Dickinson Theater at PiedmontVirginiaCommunity College.  The program features music from two thematic streams:  Americana – represented by Morton Gould’s  “American Salute” based on ‘When Johnny Comes Marching Home,’ Charles Torian’s arrangement of “National Hymn – God of our Fathers,”  and “A Benny Goodman Tribute” which includes “Pushin Sand,” “Airmail Special,” and “Flying Home” and the second theme of Music from Across the Seas which includes the Norwegian March “Valdres,” selections from “Capriccio Espagnole,” the first movement of Mozart’s “Symphony #29” and “Variations on a Korean Folksong.”


The program is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC and there is plenty of FREE parking in front of the theater.  The band is excited to announce its summer season of concerts which will be held at the Paramount Theater on the downtown mall on Tuesdays, June 4, June 18, July 2, July 16, July 30 and August 13.  More information is available at the band’s website:
