EARLYSVILLE MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE

May 27, 2013 12:00am - 1:00pm

Earlysville, VA.– May 27, 2013 - On Memorial Day, May 27, 2013, the Earlysville, Virginia Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Champ Lawson, Jr. Post 2044, will host a patriotic Memorial Day Program at the Earlysville Post Office at 10:00 a.m. The address of the Post Office is 675 Bent Oak Drive, Earlysville, Virginia 22936.

The Second Wind Band will play patriotic music, including your favorite Sousa marches 15 minutes prior to the ceremony.

The Earlysville ceremony will begin with the posting of our national colors by Cub Scout Pack 75 followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of the Star Spangled Banner lead by Greg Vaughn and the Second Wind Band.

The keynote address will be given by Margo D. Sheridan.

Following the keynote address members of the VFW, the Elks Lodge, the American Legion, Albemarle Board of Supervisors and the EXPOW organization will lay wreaths on the Earlysville Veterans Memorial stone.  Nortonsville Church of God Children’s Choir, led by Terry Tomlin, will sing a medley of patriotic songs and will ask the audience to join them in singing God Bless America.  There will then be a Three Gun Volley by an 80th Division Color Guard.  The Cub Scout Pack 75 will retire the colors.  Lastly, the ceremony will be closed by the moving and haunting playing of Dueling Taps.  Taps as many of us know was written by a soldier in the Civil War and has become the closing music for every military funeral and most Memorial Day ceremonies.

The Champ J. Lawson, Jr. Post 2044 has presented this program for over a decade and we believe it is a fitting tribute to all our veterans at a time when our soldiers, sailors and airmen are too often forgotten.  We look forward to seeing you at our patriotic celebration.
