The Charlottesville Municipal Band, presents the 3rd concert in its 91st Summer Concert Series on Tuesday, July 2 at 8:00 pm at the Paramount Theater on the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville. The FREE concert by the 80 member ensemble will feature audience favorites by some of America’s most famous band composers. The program will include: Shenandoah arranged by Frank Tichelli, Blue Tango by Leroy Anderson and Theme and Variations on Blue Tail Fly by Clare Grundman. The program also includes Eric Osterlings’s Beguine for Flutes and a Good Old Days Sing-a-long by James Ployhar. Marches are always popular fare at these concerts and the program includes two longtime favorites: Mustang, another Eric Osterling composition and Jerry Bilik’s Block M – written for the University of Michigan concert band directed by William Revelli.
The band’s Clarinet Quartet will entertain in the lobby beginning at 7:15 and the doors will open at 7:30. Youngsters can visit the band’s Musical Instrument Petting Zoo on either side of the stage between 7:30 and 7:50 to get acquainted with band members and their instruments.
The band is pleased to announce that they recently received a generous grant from the Bama Works Fund in the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation (CACF) to help support the FREE summer concerts at the Paramount.
