“Special First Time Hunter Safety Course”
August 24 (9:00am—4:30pm) and August 25 (9:00am—12:00pm) 2013
In cooperation with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries this course is to promote safe hunting and ethics. The basic 10 hour course will be presented, plus additional time for firing and caring for shotguns & rifles. Students should bring hearing and eye protection in addition to their own ammunition, shotgun and or rifle if they plan on staying after the course is over for supervised shooting instruction. Classes are held outside under a tent. Students (with a parent) are welcome to camp out over night. There is NO CHARGE. Albemarle Reserve Deputy Ike Wright will oversee the course and the Sportsmen’s Foundation will provide lunch both days which will include wild game meat with Ike’s special seasoning!

Directions: LibertyFarm is located in AlbemarleCountyjust one mile south of 7625 Porters Road. From Charlottesvilletake Rt. 20 south to Scottsville & take Rt. 6 west. Drive approx. 4 miles and take left on Porters Road. Go 2 miles & turn right on Dawson Mill Rd. Go past 'End of State Maintenance' sign and farm is at top of hill on left.
Note: All first time hunters (no previous license) and young people (age 12 through 16) are required by state law to pass a certified Hunter Safety Course (ten hours of instruction). The course covers wilderness survival as well as bow hunting, muzzle loading firearms, and modern shotguns and rifles. Those completing the course will receive a certificate, I.D. card and a patch. Open to ages 10 and up. Students in elementary & middle school must attend with parent.
