YEAR’S LARGEST FALL FOOD DRIVE TO BEGIN
Boy Scouts to collect food in area neighborhoods for the Food Bank
WHAT: Scouting for Food:Local Boy Scouts of America and the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank are teaming up for Scouting for Food, the Boy Scouts’ annual food drive. This is the largest fall food drive of the year for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, which relies on the food supply for a boost going into the holiday season. Boy Scouts collected more than 100,000 pounds of food last year.
WHEN: Deliver bags: This Saturday, October 19 (early morning through afternoon)
Pick up donations: Next Saturday, Oct. 26 (early morning through afternoon)
WHERE: Boy Scouts will deliver bags for residents to fill with food in neighborhoods across the Central Shenandoah Valley and Charlottesville area this weekend. Residents are encouraged to leave the bag filled with non-perishable food donations at their doors or mailboxes in the morning next Saturday, Oct. 26.
WHY: All donated food will help thousands of local families struggling with hunger. The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank works with community partners to feed 113,000 people each month. The need for food is great, as 46% percent more people are seeking emergency food assistance through the Food Bank this year than they were five years ago. Food drives like Scouting for Food help us meet the need. See a list of most-needed food items here. NO GLASS PLEASE.
