Heavy Rainfall Delays Fluvanna Bridgework

Recent heavy rainfalls are delaying a planned re-opening of a Fluvanna County bridge.

According to the Virginia Department of Transportation work on the bridge on Perkins Road over Venable Creek has been extended and the bridge will remain closed a month longer than originally expected.

The bridge which was built in 1951 closed on Nov. 13th and will now reopen to traffic sometime in mid-March.

VDOT crews have been replacing the original timber deck and steel beams of the bridge with a concrete slab   superstructure and once the project is completed, the bridge will be open to all legal-weight vehicular traffic.
