On Tuesday, Charlottesville’s new Police Chief RaShall Brackney addressed the Chamber of Commerce on the subject of diversity.
Brackney, who is the daughter of a black mother and white father, wants to increase diversity in the Police Department not only on the basis of race —
Chief Brackney: “I’m hoping that we start shifting to think about diversity of thought – that there is diversity of experiences and not just using some demographic metric to meet a mark.”
Brackney said that business owners are also a key factor in improving community relations with police because they know the neighborhood and the same people that they both serve.
