The American Red Cross is preparing for a large relief effort as Hurricane Florence is bearing down on the East Coast within an anticipated landfall by Thursday.
Red Cross officials are urging people in the path of the storm to obey evacuation efforts.
And when emergency shelters open in the area, officials are anticipating a need of additional volunteers to join its central Virginia workforce – especially those available to assist with opening and operating the shelters in addition to participating in disaster assessment.
