Charlottesville #1: Peace Corps Volunteers Per Capita

Charlottesville now tops the list of metropolitan areas with the highest number of Peace Corps volunteers per capita.
Last year, Charlottesville was second place in the ranking but in 2018, more than two dozen Charlottesville residents are currently serving in the Peace Corps, putting Charlottesville at the top of the list at 12.9 volunteers per 100,000 residents.
Overall, Virginia is ranked third among the 50 states with 364 volunteers serving in the Peace Corps — who are among the almost 8,300 Virginians who have served since the agency was founded in 1961.
