Work Starts On UVA Memorial To Enslaved Laborers

Construction is underway on the Memorial to Enslaved Laborers at the University of Virginia.  The memorial will honor the thousands of enslaved people who built UVA in the 19th century.

Site work for the memorial has started on the triangle of grass located across from the University Corner. Some of the initial activity on the site will include regrading, utility work, and laying the foundation for the memorial. UVA says some of the walkways near the memorial will be rerouted during construction.
